Governance
It is believed that until 1004 AD, it was part of the Ganga dynasty. Then, from 1015 AD to 1116 AD, it was ruled by the Chola rulers. After this, the Hoysala dynasty ruled. In 1357 AD, it was annexed to Vijayanagara. Shahaji Bhosale then ruled it. In 1698, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb granted it to Chikkaraja Wodeyar. Hyder Ali captured it in 1759 AD. Tipu Sultan ruled it until 1799 AD. After that, it passed to the British. It is now the capital of a state in independent India.
