Hawa Mahal is located in the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Jaipur is also known by another name, the Pink City. Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, based on the designs of architect Lalchand Ustad. It was built in the shape of Lord Krishna's crown. It has 953 windows so that the royal women could view the view outside while observing the purdah system. Ticket sales are its biggest source of income. Tickets here cost Rs. 50 for Indians and Rs. 200 for foreigners. This generates an annual income of crores, which goes into the treasury of the Government of Rajasthan.

It was part of Shahjahan's new capital, Shahjahanabad, located on the banks of the Yamuna River. It was designed by Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also designed the Taj Mahal.
